Dallas Branch National Shakespeare Competition

The annual Shakespeare Competition sponsored by the Dallas English-Speaking Union will take place on March 7th at 9:00 AM at Highland Park High School Auditorium.

Local high school students compete by performing one Shakespeare sonnet and one recitation from Shakespeare's plays. Performances are judged by members of Shakespeare Dallas. Our winner receives a free trip to New York City to compete in the national contest with the possibility of winning a scholarship to the Royal Shakespeare Society in London.

This is our 32nd year to sponsor this contest. The Dallas branch's connection began with our beloved Martha Chawner who served as chairperson for many years.

Attendance is free of course and we welcome all. Afterwards we meet for lunch at a local restaurant, Dutch treat. Where this will be is to be announced at the contest since our usual place has closed, but it will be some where nearby.

Make plans to attend. Performers always need an audience. It's truly amazing to see what high school students can do with 14th century drama.
