Andrew O'Shaughnessy Talk Gets Fall Season Underway


The Boston Branch of the English Speaking Union, in association with the Royal Oak Foundation, cordially invites you to attend a talk by historian Dr. Andrew Jackson O'Shaughnessy.  He will be speaking about his latest book, "The Men Who Lost America", which is the winner of five national book awards. Dr. O'Shaughnessy's remarks will give us a better understanding of how and why the British lost the revolutionary war with additional insight about the men who struggled to hold the British Empire together.   

The event will be held on Wednesday, November 2 at The Union Club, 8 Park Street, Boston, with a reception at 6:00 PM. Dr. O'Shaughnessy will begin his talk at 6:45 PM.  A dessert social and book signing will follow the talk.

Dr. O'Shaughnessy taught at Eton College after being educated at Oriel College, University of Oxford, where he completed his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees.  He later became a visiting professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and was an american history professor and chair of the history department at the University  of Wisconsin Oshkosh.  Presently, Dr. O'Shaughnessy is Saunders Director of the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies, Monticello, and professor of history, University of Virginia.
