Teaching Shakespeare WOrkshop

In conjunction with the Folger exhibition, The English Speaking Union of the United States, (ESU) is offering "Teaching Shakespeare Workshop: First Folio the Book that Gave Us Shakespeare", a workshop for teachers and pre-professional teachers.  Developed "by teachers for teachers" during sessions at the Folger, this workshop introduces dynamic pedagogical tools to get Shakespeare's words into the heads, mouths, and hearts of students.

Amtrak is offering a 10% discount to teachers/pre-professional teachers to travel by train to Elizabethtown.

Lunch

Lunch will be catered by Elizabethtown College Food Service, provided courtesy of the ESU Philadelphia Branch.

Registration

A $25.00 reservation fee will be refunded upon attendance on Friday, November 11, 2016, and this makes the workshop FREE.   Make checks payable to ESU and sent to the Central PA Branch at 411 Arbor Way State College, PA 16803.

Teachers will receive a packet of classroom materials, and a certificate of completion for Act 48 validation.

If you would like Act 48 Continuing Professional Education hours but cannot obtain it through your school, please bring $10.00 to registration as it will be available through Central Intermediate Unit #10. Only cash or checks made out to "Central Intermediate Unit  #10" will be accepted. Teachers will need to provide their 7 digit professional personnel identification number to get Act 48 hours.

• Susan C. Biondo-Hench, Folger Master Teacher
  Sue teaches English and directs the Shakespeare Troupe at Carlisle High School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  In 1984 she attended the first Teaching Shakespeare Institute at the Folger Shakespeare Library and became an immediate convert to teaching Shakespeare through performance.  Sue has served on staff for TSI 1998, 2008, 2010 and 2012, and she received the first Shakespeare Steward Award for Innovative Teaching of Shakespeare in American Schools from the Folger.  Most recently, Sue has served on the PBS Educational and Community Outreach Advisory Board for the Shakespeare Uncovered Series, and she is the Competition Liaison Teacher for the 2013-2014 School Year for the English Speaking Union.  Sue may be reached at biondohs@carlisleschools.org.
