Students from across the Columbus City School District participated in our winter Middle School Debate Tournament on December 9. This debate is sponsored by the Columbus Branch of The English-Speaking Union and by Capital University and Columbus City Schools Gifted and Talented Program.
Students spent the morning debating whether the United States Federal Government should decrease domestic surveillance. We would especially like to congratulate the following schools who finished in the top three places for each division.
Division 1 Grades 5 and 6
First Place - Dominion Middle School - Holly Wibbeler, Maddie Hainen, Addison Jensen and Faith Becker
Second Place - Ridgeview Middle School - Sarah Dada, Fialeta Mosazgi, Liam Moore, and Andrew Levites
Third Place - Ecole Kenwood - Aidan O'Carroll, Stella McLafferty, Camile Watson, and Micah-Kathleen Carter
Division 2 Grades 6 to 8
First Place - Columbus Gifted Academy - Lauren Long, Nyrobi Whitfield, Ubah Dallin and Trinity Ellis
Second Place - Columbus Gifted Academy Ayla Bella, Kevin Houston, Zakeah Prewitt and Thomas Gott
Third Place - Ridgeview Middle School Aidan Gleckner, PJ Homnik, Jana Kimball and Erin Meyers
First through third places are awarded a team trophy with participant ribbons. All students receive a T-shirt from Capital University and the Columbus ESU Branch as well as ESU Medallions.
