Congratulations to the 2024 ESU Denver Branch TLab Scholars. Sarah Luebking, who teaches at ThunderRidge High School, will attend Oxford University, and Trevor Johnson, who teaches at Cherokee Trail High School, will attend the University of Edinburgh. Kudos to both!

ESU Denver Branch of the Shakespeare Competition for High School
News
The ESU National Shakespeare Competitionis a performance-based education program in which high school students read, analyze, perform and recite Shakespeare's works. Since 1983, the competition has helped more than 400,000 young Americans develop communication skills and an appreciation for language and literature.
Students interested in competing select one Shakespeare monologue and sonnet from the 2022 Monologue and Sonnet Packets on the ESU website. Teachers from each participating school will then hold a competition to select one student winner to perform this material at the Denver Branch competition on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the education center Denver Center for the Performing Arts from 11:30-1:00 p.m. Teachers must hold their school competitions on or before January 27, 2023 and submit your winner by that day. The Denver Branch winner will win an all-expense paid trip to travel to New York City to compete against other high school students around the country.
Prior to the competition, school winners will have the opportunity to attend a workshop with Sam Wood, who heads the Shakespeare education program at the DCPA. This workshop will be held onSaturday, February 4, 2023 from 11:30-1:00 p.m. at the DCPA Education Center.

April 30, 2019 — New York City: April 29th may have been a normal Monday for most high school students, but for Sofie Berg from Denver School of the Arts it will be a day to remember forever. Sofie, student of Shawn Hann, placed as a semifinalist at the 36th Annual National Shakespeare Competition celebrating William Shakespeare's birthday while competing against 50 students from around the US on stage at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center Theater. The event is the culmination of a year-long competition hosted by the English-Speaking Union (ESU).
To qualify for the National Shakespeare Competition semi-finals, Sofie won the regional ESU Denver Branch Shakespeare Competition earlier this year.
The ESU celebrates English as a shared language to foster global understanding and good will by providing educational and cultural opportunities for students, educators, and members.
This summer, three scholars will participate in the TLab Program: Ms. Millicent Ambroggio of Littleton High School, Ms. Heather Anderson from Columbine High School, and Mr. Tom Tafoya from Smoky Hill High School.
Millicent Ambroggio is in her 15th year teaching secondary English Language Arts. She has been a Nationally Board Certified Teacher since 2008 and teaches at Littleton High School, an International Baccalaureate World School. Millicent will be studying Old/Middle English and Jane Austen at Oxford
Heather Anderson has a double major in Psychology and Communication from CU, Boulder, and a degree in English from CU, Denver. She currently teaches British, World, and American Literature and has volunteered at the Emily Griffith Technical School in the past. Heather will be in Oxford's Literature program.
Tom Tafoya has his degrees in English from CU, Boulder, and Humanities from Colorado College. Tom teaches freshman and senior English, is a DP teacher in the IB program, works with the IB Mentors, and is the Speech & Debate coach. Tom will study at the Globe.

Denver is fortunate to have 2010 BUSS recipient Brian Kurz's editorial printed in the Denver Post. ESU is referenced as a great edition to a students well rounded education. Thanks Brian
