Wrench Speaker: Hilary Davidson - Dress in the Age of Jane Austen

Jane Austen's novels have become synonymous with early nineteenth century fashion, especially through filmed adaptations of her work. But what did people in this period really wear? How would Austen, her family and her characters have dressed as they moved through the countryside, villages and cities of late Georgian England? This lecture explores the world of Regency clothing to bring to life the fashionable communities behind Austen's immortal words, based on years of new research in archives and museums.

An Original Radio Play Mystery Comedy

Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Kentucky, St. Louis

Mark your calendar for Monday, November 9, 2020 at 7:30 pm EST as ESU's Centennial celebrations continue with a very special event—An Original ESU Centennial Radio Play Mystery Comedy. This is an old-fashioned radio play in the genre of the 1930's and 1940's Sam Spade Detective Radio Plays but with a modern-day twist. This will be a live production with professional actors performing a mystery comedy titled, "The Case of the Missing Parents." Listeners will hear the actors perform, just like the old radio plays.

Dr. Laurence C. Morse Honored with The English-Speaking Union Founder's Award & Inaugural Princess Royal Award

Dr. Laurence C. Morse, Co-founder and a Managing Partner at Fairview Capital will be honored with the English-Speaking Union Founder's Award and the newly introduced Princess Royal Award at the 2020 ESU Centennial Gala on Wednesday, October 21st announced Karen Karpowich, Executive Director of the English-Speaking Union.

The English-Speaking Union (ESU) Founder's Award celebrates prominent individuals who exemplify the primary interests of the organization's founder, Sir Evelyn Wrench, to foster US-British relations, cultivate international understanding and good will and promote the mastery and use of English as a language of opportunity.
