Greenwich SHAKESPEARE COMPETITION
2024

The Greenwich Branch held its 2024 Shakespeare Competition on 6 March with the following winners:

First place - Daia Jade, ACES Educational Center for the Arts

Second place - Sean Byrne, Norwalk High School

Third place - Audrey Compare, Fairfield Ludlowe High School

Honourable Mention - Ava Clear, Convent of the Sacred Heart

The first place winner will compete in the ESU NATIONAL Competition on Monday 15 April 2024 at Lincoln Center, New York City.

THURSDAY 18 APRIL 2024

Luncheon and lecture by Page Knox on Van Gogh, his life, paintings CYPRESSES, STARY NIGHT, among others, recently exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  The lunch and lecture will be held at The Round Hill Club at 12 noon.

Meeting of the Board of Directors will be held at The Belle Haven Club at 3 pm.

Luncheon and lecture by Sally Bedell Smith on THE MARRIAGE THAT SAVED A MONARCHY -   The wedding of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth was a marriage that survived betrayal, tragedy and WWII.   The lunch and lecture will be held at The Round Hill Club at 12 noon.

Champagne celebration for the 76th Birthday of His Majesty King Charles III will be held at The Belle Haven Club at 3 pm -   Winners of the 2024 Shakespeare Competition will perform their winning monologues.

Luncheon and lecture on OSCAR WILDE IN NEW YORK 1882 - The Art of Celebrity -  how Wilde developed the "celebrity persona ", manipulated audiences and press,  his famous photo shoot with photographer Napoleon Sarony -  Lecture by Carl Raymond.    Lunch will be at The Round Hill Club at 12 noon.

Luncheon and lecture - The 150th Anniversary of the Paris Impressionist Exhibition will be held at Musee d'Orsay in 2024 -  Page Knox will be at the Paris Anniversary Exhibition - her lecture on the Impressionists will include power point highlights. 
Lunch will be at The Round Hill Club at 12 noon.


THURSDAY 21 novEMBER 2024

Luncheon and lecture - THE KING, THE DUKE, THE ROTHSCHILDS - EDWARDIAN COUNTRY HOUSES IN THE ERA OF DOWNTON ABBEY by Curt Di CAMILLO.  At the turn of the century, the Regency period was the zenith of the British Empire, London was the global capital, Rothschilds had the largest fortune in the world.  The lecture examines the greatest country houses of England -  Highclere Castle (setting for Downton Abbey),  Blenheim Palace (home of the Dukes of Marlborough) and the glorious Rothschild houses. Lunch will be at The Round Hill Club at 12 noon.

Christmas luncheon by the fireside at The Field Club with artists performing Classical and Christmas music.  Lunch will be at 12 noon.

Thursday 21 SEPTEMBER 2023

James O'Donnell, LVO,  British Organist and Master of Choristers at Westminster Abbey from 2000 to 2022, led the music at many royal and state occasions, including the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, lifetime Celebration for Prince Phillip, State Funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.  Mr O'Donnell is now Professor at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.  Lunch and lecture will be at The Round Hill Club at 12 noon.
