ESU Goes to the Movies

Members of the ESU Kansas City Branch were invited to an "ESU Goes to the Movies" event to see the new contemporary film version of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.  This modern-day treatment of the classic comedy has been acclaimed by the critics…

"Perhaps the liveliest and most purely delightful movie I have seen so far this year" A.O. Scott, The New York Times

"This is the funniest Shakespeare film I can recall"  Lou Lumenick, New York Post

"Joss Whedon's take on Shakespeare's classic tale is swanky, sexy and sophisticated, as bracing as a dry martini poured from a silver shaker on a summer night." Nell Minnow, Chicago Sun-Times

Noting that the film had a very limited run in Kansas City, Jeff Schnabel, Branch president, sent out an email invitation to ESU members to see this remarkable film on short notice.  A small group attended a matinee on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, with complimentary tickets.

Schnabel commented, "Occasionally, there are unique, specialty films that tie-in with ESU themes so well that I like to arrange these films for members whenever I can.  This film was a real winner by all accounts."  Other past memorable movies seen by ESU Kansas City members include The King's Speech, Anonymous, The Queen, The Iron Lady and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
