The next meeting of the Kansas City Tea & Literature Club will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017. The book is The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. Teas will be rooibos and honeybush tisanes along with some orthodox Kenyan black tea served both hot and cold. This Book Club program will include a special African-inspired dinner. Dishes will be a mix of meat and meatless. Please send an email to Nicole Burriss at midwestteafest@gmail.com to confirm your attendance by January 5 to allow planning for dinner.
All ESU members and Friends of ESU are welcome and encouraged to attend our quarterly Tea & Literature Club.
When: Second Monday of every third month. Next Club meeting: Monday, January 9, 2017
Time: 6:30-8:00 PM
Where: The home of Midwest Tea Festival Founder, Nicole Burriss, located about 10 minutes south of the Kansas City Airport. Directions will be given out when you email to verify your participation in the session at midwestteafest@gmail.com.
Admission: Suggested donation of $10 to benefit the ESU's educational programs and to cover the cost of the teas. This fee can be paid in cash on the night of the session.
The goal of the Club is to educate tea connoisseurs in learning about and developing an appreciation for world-class teas. Members of the Club will learn about tea varieties, tea etiquette and tea culture from around the world.
"Just because the tea festival is only once a year doesn't mean we stop learning about tea," said Nicole Burriss, founder of the festival. "This club will give an opportunity to tea enthusiasts to broaden their tea education."
The Kansas City Tea & Literature Club will feature a book tied to a tea growing region of the world at each quarterly meeting. There will be time for discussion of the book and about a 30 minute presentation on the tea and tea culture of the featured region. Featured books will be a mixture of fiction and non-fiction.
The Tea & Literature Club is co-sponsored with the English-Speaking Union Kansas City Branch and the Midwest Tea Fest. To learn more: Click here.
