Grace Goheen, First Place Winner of ESU Kansas City’s 2016 Shakespeare        Competition, Shines in 2017 in       Stanford Shakespeare Company

Grace Goheen won first-place in ESU's 2016 Shakespeare Competition, Kansas City Branch. Grace was a senior at Blue Valley High School in 2016. After graduation, she was accepted at Stanford University in California and is in her second semester of her freshman year. Because of her love of theatre and Shakespeare, Grace joined the Stanford Shakespeare Company, a student-run repertory theatre company renowned for creating entertaining and innovative Shakespeare productions. 

The Stanford Shakespeare Company's winter production is Macbeth. Grace was selected to perform the role of Lady Macbeth, a dream come true for Grace. Her performance has not gone unnoticed. The Stanford Arts Review, a local Stanford University newspaper for campus arts and culture, gave a glowing review of the production of Macbeth with particular notice and acclaim to Grace's Lady Macbeth.

Macbeth, played by Jake Goldstein, coupled with Grace Goheen's Lady Macbeth, "…are equally mesmerizing together and apart" quoting from The Stanford Arts Review. "…rarely has Stanford theater seen a more competent and compelling duo." 

This entrée into Stanford University theatre will, undoubtedly, only be the start of many more theatre roles and productions both on and off campus for Grace. The Kansas City Branch of the English-Speaking Union is thrilled to see our 2016 First Place Shakespeare Competition winner land such an ambitious role of one of the most powerful female characters in literature. Congratulations, Grace, on this extraordinary production of Macbeth and your continuing undergraduate years at Stanford.

The Stanford Shakespeare Company's production of Macbeth runs February 22, 23, and 25, 2017, in the Elliot Program Center on campus.
