The Memphis Branch of the English-Speaking Union held the 21st annual Russel and Joy Wiener Shakespeare Competition on March 5, 2013, at Lindenwood Christian Church.  There were nine participants presenting a monologue from a play and recitation of a sonnet.  The presentations were judged by three members of the Tennessee Shakespeare Company.  First place went to Matthew Nelson from Arlington High School.  He will receive a cash prize of $400 and a paid trip to New York to participate in the national competition.  Second place went to Sally Clark from the Hutchison School.  She will receive a cash prize of $100.  Third place went to Shaterra Pryor from Overton High School.  She will receive a cash prize of $50.  The Memphis Branch appreciates the efforts of the chairpersons, Keith and Carla Loveless and Wilma Rutland, in organizing and conducting this successful competition.
