He has worked in the brewing industry for over 30 years, as Director of Brewing Research for Anheuser Busch Inc. and as a consultant to the craft brewing industry. Professor Pringle's current teaching responsibilities at Maryville University include biotechnology and applied microbiology.

She notes that Metro St. Louis ranks fourth in the country in its number of parks! Drawing heavily from Central Park and from England, our beloved Forest Park is the crown jewel that fostered the growth of many other area parks.

ST. LOUIS TEEN COMPETES IN 34th ANNUAL ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION NATIONAL SHAKESPEARE COMPETITON IN NEW YORK CITY
News
With a performance of a sonnet and monologue from Shakespeare, Julia Hotaling from St. Louis, MO, a student of Anita Hagerman at John Burroughs School in St. Louis, placed as a semi-finalist in the 34th annual English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition in New York City. The Competition took place on May 1, 2017 on the stage of the Mitzi Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center with 54 semi-finalists from as many ESU Branch competitions nationwide. Julia previously won the ESU St. Louis Branch competition.
The winner of the 34th English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition, Ogechi Egonu, representing the San Francisco Branch, received a full scholarship to attend the American Shakespeare Center Theatre Camp in Staunton, VA, this summer. Second place winner, Brandon Burk, from the Kentucky Branch, won a cash prize of $1,000 from The English-Speaking Union, while the third place winner, Trevon Wainwright, representing the Kansas City Branch of the ESU, received an award of $500 provided by The Shakespeare Society.

Brian Abel Ragen is Emeritus Professor of English at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he taught for two decades. He is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California, and holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University. He was editor of the scholarly journal Papers on Language & Literature and is the author of books on Flannery O'Connor and Tom Wolfe, as well as articles on subjects that range from biblical allusions in Chaucer to the revision of traditional hymns in modern hymnals.

Donna Northcott holds a BA in Theatre from St. Louis University and an MA in Theatre from Northwestern University. She studied Shakespearean acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Summer Seminar at Oxford University, Meisner Technique at the Actors' Center in Chicago; interned in Artistic Administration at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and has taught Meisner Technique and Shakespeare acting workshops in Chicago and St. Louis. Prior to coming to Lindenwood University, Ms. Northcott was employed as the Live Theatre Manager at the St. Louis Science Center, where she created the Science Theatre Caravan touring program, and later sh served as the Youth Theatre Manager at the Jewish Community Center. She currently serves as an Artistic Advisor for the St. Louis Science Center.

The St. Louis Branch of the English-Speaking Union hosted Mr. Peter Hambridge as our 2017 Walter Hines Page Scholar. Mr. Hambridge currently serves at the Head of Biology and the Joint Head of Science at Parmiter's School in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. The goal of his visit was to explore strategies that American high schools use to support and encourage students in their pursuit of post-secondary science studies and careers. He was provided with an informative and tasty tour of St. Louis, spoke about today's technological world at the St. Louis Branch February luncheon, toured four local schools, met with a professor of Educational Leadership at Maryville University, and attended a Saint Louis University basketball game.
