St. Louis Branch Shakespeare Competition

The English-Speaking Union of St. Louis hosted a wonderful Saturday morning of young people and Shakespeare on February 4, 2017  at  Fontbonne University!

Thanks to Joan Falk and Deanna Jent, we were able to meet at Fontbonne University for the annual ESU Shakespeare competition.  Ten area schools sent competitors who inspired all in attendance at their grasp of the language and rhythm of the Bard.  In fact every year, the students seem to get stronger and stronger at performing Shakespeare.  However, our judges, Dr. Johanna Schmitz (Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville) , Dr. Kurt Schreyer (University of Missouri at St. Louis), and Donna Northcott (Lindenwood University) deliberated and chose Julia Hotaling's (John Burroughs HS) performance of Margaret from Henry VI Part 3 and Sonnet 130 as 1st place winner to represent the St. Louis Branch at the national competition in New York City on May 1.  Second place winner was Nikole Kramer (Cor Jesu Academy) followed by Third place winner Grace Wallis (St. Dominic HS).  Bravo to all involved!
