Teaching Shakespeare Through Performance

The Rainborowes: One Family's Quest to Build a New England: In the tumultuous decades between 1630 and 1660, a group of Massachusetts settlements quickly grew into a network of established colonies with their own distinctive social, economic and religious culture, while across the Atlantic, England was involved in a bloody civil war that shook the fabric of English social, political and religious life. At the center of this turbulent time was a remarkable family: the Rainborowes.

Adrian Tinniswood OBE is a distinguished British historian, author and lecturer, whose passion for architecture and history began when he began researching and writing about Sudbury Hall, (owned by the National Trust) located in Derbyshire. Mr. Tinniswood has written many books including, The Polite Tourist, His Invention So Fertile: The Life of Christopher Wren, By Permission of Heaven: The Story of the Great Fire of London, The Verneys: A True Story of Love, War and Madness in 17th-Century England. Mr. Tinniswood currently resides in Bath, England.

2014 Shakespeare Competition Makes Headlines

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Jeffrey Kringer, Haven Kohanski and Lucy Purnine were the top winners of the 26th annual Shakespeare Competition of the Syracuse branch of the English-Speaking Union of the United States. High school students from 19 Central New York schools competed in the Saturday event. During the competition, students recited a monologue and sonnet. While there were19 local finalists, 159 students competed in the first round at their high schools.
