Event Recap – December 12, 2018
The Syracuse Branch of the English-Speaking Union held their 70th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, May 12. 2018 at
Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse.
Bob Price, pianist to U.S. Presidents, entertained during the cocktail reception prior to the luncheon.
Carl & Alice Borning co-chaired the event, with Carl acting as master of ceremonies. Other members of the organizing committee were Ann Barker-Griffith, Shirley
Cruickshank, Norma Ferguson, Wendy Hoblyn Jones, Dori Parker, and JoAnn Wallace
Ed Mohylowski, Deputy Executive Director of the
English-Speaking Union of the U.S., offered
greetings to the Syracuse Branch and presented a
commendation from the English-Speaking Union of
the United States.
Olivia Moffa, 2018 Central New York Shakespeare Competition Winner, presented her winning monologue as Miranda from the Tempest.
Laura Hand, Journalist and News Anchor on NBC 3 in Syracuse, was keynote speaker. She spoke of changes in English language usage over her years as a journalist. Laura Hand
