2023 ESU National shakespeare competition: Cleveland branch

The ESU National Shakespeare Competition: Cleveland Branch will take place this year. Details to follow.

Below please find information from the 2021 competition that may prove useful. Please check back for more information.

A message to our teachers:

As to the competition itself, you may hold your in-school competition in any way you are able, either in person or by video links or recordings, unfortunately due to the COVID virus the Branch will NOT be able to supply any judges this year. How you select your winners is up to you. Each school may enter their top two selections for the Branch competition. Each school winner will submit a recorded performance for the Branch competition by February 15, 2021.

The top six finalists selected by our judges will then be scheduled for the finals round, either in-person, by live link or by video recording as conditions permit, though it is not likely that we will be able to hold in-person competitions. A live link with our judges would be our preferred second option, though your winner may select to submit a new recorded performance for this round. This finals judging will take place in early March.

We may be able to offer a video link for viewing and voting on a People's Choice Award and a Students' Choice Award (as the Tom Joyner Prize). We may also try to schedule an event for our six finalists and our membership, friends and families at a later date.

Please register on the ESU website www.ESUUS.org if you have not already done so, and let me know when you would like to schedule workshops. They may be during your regular class time or after school or weekends, as you wish. There are many tools and resources for Teachers available at the website that may help you prepare your winners. Thanks again for your participation.
