Country Houses of Louisville 1899

On September 12, 2013 guests and members gathered at The Casino for a lecture and book signing by authors Winfrey Blackburn and R. Scott Gill. Their beautiful book "Country Houses of Louisville" presented an in depth view of 32 spectacular country estates. Based on extensive new research, the authors were able to delve into family archives and institutional collections from Kentucky to Chicago to New York, Boston and Maine. The book displays full color ilustrated pages and over 300 contemporary and archival images a great number of which are being published for the very first time. Together with the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) the ESU hosted a lovely luncheon bringing many of these demolished homes to life that in many cases have been long forgotten.
