Meet & Greet Nathan!
The English-Speaking Union of Kansas City invites Shakespeare Competition teachers and current or past competition students to lunch with Nathan Darrow. A 1994 Shawnee Mission North graduate, Nathan Darrow, who lives in New York, has returned to Kansas City to play the title role, Hamlet, for the Heart of America's Shakespeare Festival's 25th annual summer production.

The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival's 25th season brings to Kansas City audiences what is considered by many scholars as Shakespeare's greatest play—Hamlet. Indeed, some scholars go further to proclaim Hamlet is the greatest play ever written by any playwright!
Nathan Darrow, a Kansas City native and Shawnee Mission North graduate, stars in the title role. Hamletis the story of a young prince torn between his dual roles of ruler and son, between introspective moral questioning and swift action. It is also a story about the human spirit and the difficulties that can result when we experience internal conflict.

Trevon Wainwright Wins Third Place in 34th ESU National Shakespeare Competition

Trevon Wainwright, a senior at Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts in Kansas City, Missouri, won third place in the 34th Annual English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition. Trevon impressed the judges and captivated the audience with his performance of King Henry from Henry V and his recitation of Sonnet 130.
The first place winner was Ogechi Egonu from San Francisco, CA. and second place was awarded to Brandon Burk from the ESU Kentucky Branch.

The English-Speaking Union cordially invites you and your guests to an afternoon of Taking Tea with Shakespeare This program is brought to you by the Leawood Stage Company, Magna Carta & Royal Arms DBE Chapters and the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival.
There is nothing so quintessentially British as taking afternoon tea while enjoying the literature of Shakespeare.
Tea and a vast array of delectable tea sandwiches, scones and sweets will be served by the Magna Carta & Royal Arms Chapters of the Daughters of the British Empire.

We will be reading Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh. Join our group as we will be exploring the multi-faceted chai traditions of India and our dinner will be grilled tandoori chicken. If you wish to bring an appropriate Indian side dish, please do!
All ESU members and Friends of ESU are welcome and encouraged to attend our quarterly Tea & Literature Club.
When: Second Monday of every third month. Next Club meeting: Monday, July 10, 2017
Time: 6:30-8:00 PM
Where: This meeting will be held in the home of Midwest Tea Festival founder Nicole Burriss, about 10 minutes south of the Kansas City Airport.

Admission: Suggested donation of $10 to benefit the ESU's educational programs and to cover the cost of the teas. This fee can be paid in cash on the night of the session.

The English-Speaking Union will be celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's birthday with An ESU Tea Party Fit for a Queen! All ESU Members and Friends of ESU are cordially invited to attend one of our biggest social gatherings of the year. An ESU Tea Party Fit For a Queen will again be held at Anna Marie's Teas in Liberty, MO.
Our ESU annual tea parties are very popular and have sold out for the last five years and we will have two seatings to accommodate all who want to attend.
