ESU Goes to the Movies        Dame Helen Mirren in The Audience

THE AUDIENCE--an encore film starring Helen Mirren and Richard McCabe coming to Kansas City, July 19 at 7:00 pm. ESU members and friends are invited to attend this one-night screening at AMC Town Center 20. Ticket purchases are below.

In celebration of HRH Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday this year, The Audience which was recorded live during the original run of the production in London's West End in 2013, is returning to select movie theatres.

For sixty years, Queen Elizabeth II has met with each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a private weekly meeting. This meeting is known as The Audience. No one knows what they discuss, not even their spouses. From the old warrior Winston Churchill, to the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair right up to today's meetings with the current incumbent David Cameron, the Queen advises her Prime Ministers on all matters both public and personal. Through these private audiences, we see glimpses of the woman behind the crown and witness the moments that shaped a monarch.

The original play won two 2015 Tony Awards® for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play (Helen Mirren) and Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role (Richard McCabe).

Because of the recent changes in the U.K. Parliament with the outgoing Prime Minister, David Cameron, and the newly appointed Prime Minister, Theresa May, this special screening of The Audience is timely and puts a spotlight on British tradition that is undergoing a major transition.

If you are a fan of Helen Mirren, and who isn't, you must celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday with an encore presentation of the original West End production of The Audience, captured live in London in 2013 and featuring an exclusive Q&A with director Stephen Daldry and Helen Mirren.

Several ESU Kansas City members and friends are attending the 7:00 pm showing of The Audience at AMC's Town Center 20 Theatres on Tuesday, July 19. Tickets are $18 for adults and seniors and worth every penny. (If you saw the play live in London, you would have paid at least $125). Please join us for this extraordinary one-night event. 3 hours with intermission.

Tickets may be purchased online. Click here. (click on 7:00 showtime) To avoid disappointment in the event of a sellout, we recommend purchasing tickets online, in advance.
