2016 ESU Shakespeare Contest

Over a dozen schools participated, bringing to life monologues and sonnets from the Bard. The third place winner was Lizzy Noble from Roosevelt High School; second place was Kari Hustad from S. Whidbey Island, and the first place winner was Jack Steiner from Olympia. Note that two of the winners were from the northernmost and southernmost schools in the competition! The audience was treated to catered refreshments during the judges' intermission. This turned into a lively social occasion, allowing time for long conversations with contestants, their teachers, and families. Folks were informed about our new Twitter account (@esu_seattle), where they can send photos from the Competition! I also announced our April 30th "Celebrate the Bard" event, and was delighted to see people picking up flyers. Kudos to branch members who worked so hard on the 2016 Competition: Susan Wilson (chair), Mary Mohler, Eli Kirkpatrick, Clint Miller, Jim Smith, Donna Smith, Irene Tregear (who served again as a judge), and Marlene Holbrook.
