Kensington Palace brings back memories of the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales and a sea of floral tributes seen all over the world, but for 300 years, the palace has been an integral part of Britain's royal story. Built by William and Mary, enlarged by Queen Anne and Kings George I and George II, it has, since 1760, hosted a whole tribe of royal residents including the future Queen Victoria, who was born there in 1819. The tradition continues with the recent move to the palace of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Kensington represents a wonderful cross-section of British architectural history. Historic Royal Palace's project to re-present the palace revealed new and exciting evidence, conjuring up the colors, décor and the drama of the history played out within its walls.
Dr. Lee Prosser became the Historic Buildings Curator with Historic Royal Palaces in 2003. His most recent work has been the major project at Kensington Palace, and the opening of the wonderfully preserved royal kitchens at Kew. He has published widely, and his most recent works include Kensington Palace: Essential Tales and Victoria Revealed, produced to coincide with the reopening of Kensington Palace.
