NEW YORK CITY TEEN A FINALIST IN 34th ANNUAL ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION NATIONAL SHAKESPEARE COMPETITON IN NEW YORK CITY

With a performance of a sonnet and monologue from Shakespeare, Lee Ann Bael from Brooklyn, NY, a student of Scott Austin at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, won a place as one of the 10 finalists in the 34th annual English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition in New York City. The Competition took place on May 1, 2017 on the stage of the Mitzi Newhouse Theater with 54 semi-finalists from as many ESU Branch competitions nationwide. Lee previously won the ESU New York City Branch competition.

The winner of the 34th English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition, Ogechi Egonu, representing the San Francisco Branch, received a full scholarship to attend the American Shakespeare Center Theatre Camp in Staunton, VA, this summer.  Second place winner, Brandon Burk, from the Kentucky Branch, won a cash prize of $1,000 from The English-Speaking Union, while the third place winner, Trevon Wainwright, representing the Kansas City Branch of the ESU, received an award of $500 provided by The Shakespeare Society.

Yuletide Party

On December 8, 2016, spirits were high as our Branch members and friends from the British Schools and Universities Club of New York celebrated the holiday season in style at the annual Yueltide Holiday Party. Guests convened in the ESU Garden Room for what turned out to be a festive and merry occasion.  The Garden Room itself was turned into a winter wonderland filled with festive lights, a beautiful tree, and holiday music all of which set the mood.  The evening started with light hors d'oeuvres and a tipple or two from the bar to warm the guests as they entered.

ARNIC Thanksgiving Party

On November 21, English-Speaking Union hosted a special Thanksgiving feast to introduce 80 members of its ARNIC program and guests to the most iconic of American traditions. Three ARNIC alumni, Mohamed Berrakaoui, Leo Borello, and Alyona Glushchenkova, spoke, thanking Dr. Romay for his support, and shared their paths to success in the US.
