Jules Verne Eats a Rhinoceros

Tuesday, February 19 from 6:00 to 10:30 pm

The English-Speaking Union invites you to a pre-theater wine-and-cheese reception followed by a performance of The Amateur Comedy Club production of Don Nigro's "Jules Verne Eats a Rhinoceros".

In what might be Nigro's funniest and most ambitious dramatic epic, Nelly Bly fights her way onto Mr Pulitzer's New York Journal and into American legend as the greatest female reporter in history. This ambitious adventure takes us through an American wonderland peopled by Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst, Damon Runyon Teddy Roosevelt, Emma Goldman, Captain Nemo, a Barbary Ape and Jules Verne, among others. Nelly's adventure is America's adventure in the late 19th and early 20th century, and her coming of age is America's, as her boundless optimism and enthusiasm comes face to face with the nightmare of the twentieth century.

We will gather for the reception between 6:00 and 6:30 pm at the ESU and walk over as a group to the
Amateur Comedy Club at 7:15 pm for an 8:00 pm curtain.
