A hearty congratulations to Xavier Pacheco, the New York City representative at the 30th annual ESU National Shakespeare Competition!  Out of the 58 ESU Branch representatives from across the country, Xavier won 1st place at the Competition (held Monday, April 22nd at Lincoln Center).

Xavier is a resident of Queens, NY and a student of Gabriel Silva at the Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts in Manhattan (a pubic high school in the West Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan).  He wowed the judges with one of Benedick's monologues from Much Ado About Nothing and Sonnet 29.  For placing first at the event, he will attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art's Young Actors Summer School in London, England.

He is the first New York City student to win the National Competition, and how special it is that his win comes during the year that this educational program (initiated in New York City in 1983) celebrates its 30th season.
