Dr. Laurence C. Morse

Luard Scholar 1971 - 1972
Howard University - - London School of Economics

THEN

"It is my conviction that the purpose of a liberal education is to broaden an individual's perspective, aid him in understanding the world in which he lives in and to prepare him to function as a member of an organized democratic society. This type of preparation is obtained by being exposed either to various environments, or a liberal arts education. Having been exposed to the American education process all of my life, I face the danger, along with millions of other American students, of knowing more and more about less and less. Hopefully by broadening my intellectual outlook on life I will be able to aid in expanding the perspective of others with whom I might come in contact."

NOW

"I find it difficult to imagine my post-college career having followed the path it has taken without the influence of the seminal year I was fortunate enough to spend a The London School of Economics; a year made possible by the Luard Scholarship. It's continuing impact upon me has been, indeed profound."
