The ESU is proud to announce that Talia Sharpp, a Political Science Major from Broadview, Illinois, and Adaya Sturkey, a Biology Major from Marion, South Carolina, both students at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, have been selected as this year's recipients of the English-Speaking Union Luard Morse Scholarship. The scholarship provides $25,000 toward one semester of study at any university in the United Kingdom during the 2016-2017 academic year.

"The English-Speaking Union Luard Morse Scholarship Committee is excited about these truly exceptional students. Talia and Adaya represent the highest caliber of student-scholars in our country. The committee is delighted to welcome them to The English-Speaking Union family and to the ranks of Luard Morse Scholars. We wish all the applicants and finalists the very best in their future endeavors," stated Darrell Hill, a member of the Luard Morse Scholarship Committee and of The English-Speaking Union of the United States National Board.

Talia and Adaya join 75 English-Speaking Union Luard Morse Scholars, who, since 1969, have performed with distinction at 18 British Universities including Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics and Kings College, London. They have served as unofficial ambassadors for the United States while abroad and for the United Kingdom upon returning home to their American universities. The two other finalists for the English-Speaking Union Luard Morse Scholarship were Bryan Redmond, a Psychology Major at Xavier University (New Orleans, LA) and Anna Chambliss, a Civil Engineering Major at Howard University (Washington, D.C.). The English-Speaking Union Luard Morse Scholarship committee is comprised of dedicated alumni of the program. It includes Laurence Morse, PhD (1972), Robert Farmer (1987), Duane Hughes (1985), Darrell Hill (1990) and Jill Toliver Richardson, PhD (1998).

Since 1969, the ESU has provided the English-Speaking Union Luard Morse Scholarship to students attending United Negro College Fund schools as well as Howard and Hampton Universities to study in the United Kingdom. These merit awards, which are open to sophomores pursuing a four-year degree, provide tuition, room and board for one semester of study at any university in the United Kingdom. Students in all disciplines are eligible. The scholarship has been awarded to students majoring in economics, philosophy, finance, mathematics, liberal arts and the sciences.
